Questions

How to pick a route

All questions and answers

Which one-week sailing routes are the shortest?

Shortest by miles: Marsh Harbour — Hope Town (Caribbean), about 50 nautical miles; Praslin — Curieuse — Aride (Seychelles), about 55 nautical miles; Bar — Ulcinj (Montenegro), about 60 nautical miles. Short legs leave time for swimming and stops, which makes a first week under sail easier.

Which one-week sailing routes are the longest?

Most miles: Fethiye — Bodrum (Turkey), about 236 nautical miles; Valencia — Formentera (Spain), about 225 nautical miles; Tenerife — Gran Canaria (Canary Islands), about 225 nautical miles. These are weeks for an experienced crew: longer legs, more wind and sea.

Which destinations have routes?

Turkey: 9 routes; Greece: 11 routes; Croatia: 9 routes; Montenegro: 3 routes; Italy: 14 routes; France: 3 routes; Spain: 8 routes; Canary Islands: 3 routes; Portugal: 3 routes; Seychelles: 3 routes; Thailand: 4 routes; Maldives: 1 route; Caribbean: 8 routes; Cuba: 3 routes. Each destination page shows all its routes on a map, plus discounted boats.

Do I need a licence to charter a yacht?

For a bareboat charter (no skipper or crew provided), yes: a skipper's licence and, as a rule, a VHF radio certificate. Without a licence, we add a skipper, paid separately from the boat price.

Why do all charters run Saturday to Saturday?

99% of charter fleets worldwide work this way: the boat comes back on Friday evening and goes out to the next crew on Saturday morning. Other changeover days are possible in low season, by arrangement. In some destinations (the Caribbean, Cuba, France) you can add days beyond the week: +1, 2, 3 or 4 days.

How far ahead should I book?

In the Mediterranean (Turkey, Greece, Croatia), you can catch hot deals 2–6 weeks ahead. For the Caribbean, the Seychelles and other exotic destinations, book early, 4–8 months ahead: fleets there are smaller and last-minute discounts almost never come up.
